Hakim Syed Zia ul Hasan (HSZH) Unani Medical College, Bhopal, is the only Govt. (autonomous) Unani College established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1998. Presently, the annual intake capacity of the students is 60 at the undergraduate level with well equipped 100 bedded hospital in which pathology lab., sonography, X-ray, and ECG facilities are available all the time. P.G courses (M. D. or Mahir-e-Tib ) has been started in three departments namely Amraz-e-Jild wa Tazeeniyatand, Ilaj bit Tadbeer and Tahffuzi wa Samaji Tib.

It was like a dream came true for the people in the state when the Government of MP announced the decision about the establishment of this college since it was the first Unani medical college in public sector after the closure of Asfia Tibbiya College a Unani medical institute established during the era of royal state of Bhopal. Since then College is flourishing under AYUSH Deptt. Govt of Madhya Pradesh. Selection and recruitment of employees are made by MP Govt. through its agencies such as MP Public Service Commission, MPPEB, etc. The services of the employees are governed by Govt. of M.P. rules.

The college has a spread of 10 acres area of land as a part of beautiful, common AYUSH campus, the first of its kind in India where Unani Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic colleges have many things in common i.e. spectacular scenery that has wide appeal in the area, academic interaction, administrative collaboration, cordial & faithful atmosphere in dealing with many problems jointly. This college shifted from old city of Bhopal to its new campus located near Kalia Sot dam in 2008. Since then, it has been going from strength to strength making great strides over a very short span of its existence. This institute which has affiliation with MPMSU Jabalpur and recognition by the Central Council of Indian Medicine New Delhi is the center of excellence for the Unani in the state with 14 departments and fully equipped 100 bedded hospital.

The institute has come a long way since its early days as the college now has sufficient teaching staff with new college building and the new building of hospital which is running and enjoying all the satisfaction of being a successful hospital. Moreover, it is a point of honor for the college that its annual student intake increased from forty to sixty seats in 2014 and the commencement of PG courses in three disciplines in 2022. These examples will suffice to prove that the college is on the path of rapid progress.

The entire team of the college comprising the principal, physicians, consultants, teaching and non teaching staff are determined to make the college & hospital grow and develop on the principles laid down by the great souls of Unani system like Hippocrates, Galen, Ibn-e- Sina, Ibn-e-Baitar, Allama Ibn-e- Nafees, Hakim Ajmal Khan and so on.

During a short period of time, the college has many feathers in its cap such as many students cracked the competition at national level to get admission in National Institute of Unani at Bangaluru, many students of this college were selected as Medical officers in the state through PSC and many a good student is also giving medical services for National rural health mission (NRHM) in different parts of the state. The college also prides itself on having more than two-thirds of its faculty as Post Graduates.

For this reason, every endeavor is being made by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the college administration to make a success of this institute. Recently PG courses has been started in three departments i.e Amraz-e-jild was Tazeeniyat, Ilaj bit Tadbeer and Tahaffuzi was samaji Tib. Keeping in view the future plan, many more measures and steps are initiated to make the college an excellence  center for Unani Sciences.

Vision

The vision of this college is to impart Unani Medical sciences at UG and PG level of national competence without making compromises on Unani principles and identities, and to provide affordable Unani healthcare facilities to all the sections of the society.

From the desk of the Principal

Prof. Mehmooda Begam

It affords me the greatest pleasure to be part of this institute, which has earned its own niche across the Unani world over a short span of 24 years. It is an undeniable fact that there is a historic and monumental role of Unani medicine in the transmission of medical sciences through the ages until the rise of modern medicine. Even today, playing the role of Unani medicine is immensely needed and hoped for more than ever, given the health challenges facing the world in general and India in particular.

Nowadays, there has been an upsurge in non-communicable and lifestyle diseases across the globe, and nonavailability of the safe and effective treatment options in conventional medicine has further added to the misery of the ailing population. In this scenario, there is a great opportunity for the Unani system of medicine to fill this void by employing time-tested, safer, preventive and curative approaches through natural medicines and various procedure-based therapies. The regimenal therapies of the system (ILAJ BIT TADBEER) across the nation are satisfyingly proving to be a boon for the patients suffering from such problems.

This college can duly pride itself on having exceptional, committed, dedicated faculty members of many talents, who have the potential to contribute to the healthcare system in the hope of making this world a better place to live. Our college has always been at the forefront of providing the best facilities to its students from an academic perspective. Still, also there are continuous efforts to facilitate their overall growth.

We continue to serve the nation through quality teaching and research through the production of knowledgeable, competent and skilled Unani graduates, who can provide safe and effective healthcare delivery both at home and abroad. I look forward to the continued support of each member of H.S.Z.H. Government Unani Medical College and hospital complex so that we, as a team, can live up to the expectations of our nation.

Best wishes

Prof. Mehmooda Begum
