National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Bengaluru, a premier institute and Hospital for research and training in Unani medicine in India, is working under the administrative control of Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India as an autonomous organization. It was established in 1984 as a joint venture with Govt. of Karnataka but research and academic activities were started in 2004 with the admission of Ist batch of P.G Scholars. The vision of this institute is to strengthen and promote excellence in education, research and patient care in Unani medicine.

Presently, the hospital of the institute has an OPD wing and IPD of 180 beds with separate wards for male and female patients. Health huts are also operational for those patients who want full privacy with upgraded facilities on payment basis. Clinical services are provided to the patients from general and speciality OPDs of Musculoskeletal, Skin and cosmetology, Gastrointestinal, Hepato-biliary, Neurological, Psychiatric, Geriatric and Lifetsyle disorders. Advice on nutritional plan for specific conditions is also given to the patients. Antenatal care and family planning services are also provided in Obstetrics and Gynaecological disorders unit. The hopsital has well established Regimenal therapy centre. It is a special modality of treatment, where non-pharmaco therapeutic modalities (Hijama, Dalk, Hammam, Nutool and many more) are employed in the management of various disorders.

Neuro-muscular rehabilitation was established with the broad aim of catering the needs of patients suffering from neuro-muscular disorders like stroke, hemiplegia and paraplegia, myopathy, motor-neuron diseases, parkinsonism etc. Besides providing Unani treatment, it is also equipped with modern diagnostic laboratories-Pathology, Biochemistry, Radiology and Ultra Sonography. NIUM hospital is also providing health care facilities to socioeconomically weaker groups at their door steps by organizing Health camps and Mobile Clinics. Recently, NIUM hospital has been accredited by NABH. It is the first NABH accredited Unani hospital.

Aims & Objective

The Govt of Madhya Pradesh and the college administration have set themselves specific Aims and Objectives to be achieved by setting up this college. For their attainment, the college has been working towards them since its inception in 1998. Some of the aims and objectives are as follows:

1. The primary aim and objective of this Unani medical college is to propagate and popularize the Unani system of medicine and Unani way of life in the state by training students and providing the treatment to the public purely based on Unani principles and concepts.

2. Enhancement of Education standards in Unani system of medicine by making the most of modern advances in medical field without compromising on Unani principles.

3. Training and grooming of students, scholars, physicians and researchers with the intention of making them so competent and efficient that they can meet the serious health challenges of the country in general and the state in particular.

4. Alleviation of human sufferings in regard with health problems by providing holistic health care to the public, especially poor people of the state.
